Occasionally, we get an urge for a burger and the trimmings. We have found that this lifestyle allows for that if you are careful. We buy Sunshine Burgers at Wild Oats. They come 3 to a package and are fairly reasonably priced there. Heated in a skillet and served on an Ezekiel bread bun with all the regular trimmings (we use Nasoya no-fat sandwich spread instead of mayo), these are pretty darn good. Today we had hash brown potatoes cooked in a non-stick skillet and some Bush's Vegetarian Baked Beans doctored up a little with some maple syrup and some Walden Farms barbeque sauce. Yummy! Now, these burgers are made with sunflower seeds. I haven't seen anything banning them and we do use flax seeds and flax meal so I am assuming that these are OK. We buy the Garden Herb flavor. I bought the Southwestern flavor one time and really lit up my life!

I will vouch for the fact that they were delicious. Just like eating a regular hamburger and fries but good for you.
Hey - I checked these out and noticed that the fat content on them is high, relative to the lifestyle change diet, at between 10 to 13 grams per a serving, and 1.5 of saturated fat. And the calories from fat exceed 60%, verses the lifestyle plan which tells us to keep our fat intake to less than 10 percent of our total intake. They look yummy, but just wanted to warn you.

Ooops. I stand corrected. This post is only a figment of your imagination and we never ate these burgers! No. Well, it's a good thing that we have someone who knows and understands all the finer points of the program to keep us straight. Here's my mistake with these: I have been very careful to verify the source of the fat in the item - not particularly the amount. Since the fat all comes from sunflower seeds rather than a refined oil, I thought they were OK.
I have made Dr. E's black bean burgers and found them a little on the spicy side. I also made a pretty nice concoction with pinto beans. Guess I need to get that back out and work on it! Thanks Mark - really! Somebody needs to keep me straight!
